Qingdao, China

01 getting downtown 02 where to stay 03 what to do

I was only in China for less than 24 hours and most of that was at night. So there wasn’t much time to see the city but the parts that I did explore were outstanding. Based on other Asian cities, I was expecting trash piled high in the streets and for my accommodations to be discussing. In reality though, it was spotless. As for the whole country, I don’t know, but Qingdao was perfect. The people were incredibly friendly and smiley throughout the whole city. In the early morning people are already up and going 100 mph. However, down by the sea side the older generation gather to practice tai chi while the sun rises. Don’t ever count on having a place to yourself as there are many people no mater where you are.

01 GETTING DOWNTOWN

It takes about 40 minutes to get from the airport to the downtown area and cost about 15 USD (by taxi).

02 WHERE TO STAY

Kaiyue International Hostel - For 7 USD you get a room plus a beer. My only problem with this place is that their restaurant only has western food.

03 WHAT TO DO

Zhanqiao Bridge - Is a very cool pier with an octagonal pavilion located at the end, called the Billowing Back and Forth Tower. It was built in 1930 and is 440 m (1443.57ft) long. A perfect spot to watch the sunrise but don’t expect to be there alone.

Pichai Yuan - Street food with all kinds of seafood. From starfish to sea slugs, you can find a lot of interesting foods to try. All around this area there are great restaurants.
