Andong, South Korea
One overnight trip to Andong and one very frozen me. Actually, it was supposed to be two nights. I had planned to go see two things 1) Woryeonggyo Bridge 2) Andong Mountain. When I got there, I was asking around, trying to figure out how to get to the trailhead but turns out the mountain doesn’t exist… So I just stayed one night because the city was fairly expensive with not much to do.
I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to see this town because most of the site seeing monuments are outside of the city anyway. There is a soju museum, but it is closed to the public. Although they have a special soju produced in Andong so you should try that! You can buy it in most of the convenient stores.
It can be really beautiful in the winter, but I thought I was going to die when I was taking photos on the bridge. My suggestion is to go in autumn because the colors will be unbelievable! And your hands won’t feel like falling off.
If anyone finds the mountain please let me know!
Food:
There is also the famous Andong jjimdak, it is a chicken stew with a lot of different veggies and glass noodles. It cost about 44000 WON (38 USD) but as a student traveler, there was no way that was going to happen. It smelled really good, though. Instead, I tried cow head soup; it wasn't my favorite but that is because I don't like cartilage.
Side note: you can leave your bags in the lockers at the train station free for 24 hours.
