The capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana is such a lively place. Cities are not always my favorite, but everyone was so friendly and happy here that it didn’t have the hustle bustle feel. Also, it is not that big, you can walk anywhere you need to. In fact, the city map has rings drawn on it to tell you how long it will take to walk to different places. There is also a castle on top of a hill which is pretty cool. We didn’t stay here very long, but I would go back in a heartbeat.
01 PLACES TO CHECKOUT
Metelkova Art Center
This is a very interesting place where people have spray-painted the area and made sculptures out of random things. We didn’t have much time to explore because we had to catch a bus but I recommend you leave time for it.
Ljubljana Castle
Of course, you should check out the castle. It isn’t anything special but you have an amazing view of the whole city and there are really pretty paths up there. (also a train if you don’t want to walk).
Street market
On the weekends they have street markets with traditional foods. We were there during the week so we didn't get to visit it.
This is a city that you should explore by foot. Around every corner, there is something cool to see. If you can ask the locals where the best places are because there are a lot of underground hangouts.
02 WHERE TO STAY
Sax Hostel - It is a really fun hostel. From the outside, it just looks like a pub but in the back, the hostel is attached. There are jazz players painted all over the walls and each room in themed. It isn’t decently in the center of the city but about seven minutes by foot from the hubbub. Everyone there is so friendly and helpful.
03 WHERE TO EAT
Pop’s Place - normally I would not recommend burger places but these are something out of this world. They have a one with truffle sauce to die for.
Druga Violina - A well recommended more traditional restaurant. We didn’t actually get to eat here because it was booked every night we were there but everyone told us it was the best.
04 HOW TO GET THERE
FlixBus - We took an overnight bus from Torino to Ljubljana.
Blabla Car - This always depends on if you can find a ride for the day/time you are going.
