Hva, Croatia
We tend to always naturally drift towards the water, even if we are doing a capricious trip. I can’t say partying isn’t our thing because my mom and I do go clubbing on occasion but getting trashed isn’t a big activity for us. Never the less we decided to go to Hvar, a party Island. People destroy the town at night. Broken bottles, vomit all over the streets, and general trash everywhere but the Croatians would have it all nicely cleaned up by the time the sun came up.
Looking to avoid this crowd we chose to take a boat trip through the islands around this area. We were served fish with all kinds of veggies, it was fab! We were able to get off at some of the islands to go swimming and/or get drinks. At other points, they would quickly anchor the boat and tell us to jump off. This was the best because the water was so crystal clear you could see all the way to the bottom of the deep bays. We motored back to the docks as the sun was going down which made for a lovely viewing point. And made it to the port just in time to get dinner before everyone got wild in town.
Where to buy tickets for day trips:
You can buy the tickets along the port directly from the crew. There are many different companies, so you just have to shop your way around until you find one you like. We went for a small little boat that had an open top deck that you could jump off the top of. Yeah, that's what we looked for in a company. It was a pretty cheap day trip that included lunch and some snacks. The prices change depending on the company and if you are traveling in the high season vs low season.
Where to eat:
Our first night in town we found one of the best restaurants in the city. Located a street behind the main road up a little hill so most tourists don’t bother going. It was overbooked, as most of the famous restaurants are in Croatia, but with the three or four words we knew in the language they made room for us to have a 40-minute meal. The food was so good we went back the next day to try something else on the menu. After dinner, you can continue walking up the little alleyway to get to a viewing point of a different part of the bay. It also leads down to a swimming area where there is a beach but also a dock for those who don’t like to get sandy.
(I can’t find the name of the restaurant right now but when I do, I will update this!)
You can get drinks at any of the bars around the port. It just depends on what kind of pub you want to go to.
